“The kind of in-depth investigative journalism we practice at FRONTLINE is thoughtful, rigorous, and time-intensive. Major gifts to the FRONTLINE Journalism Fund allow us to deliver our reporting on the platforms to which it is best suited and to ensure that our journalism is accessible to all.“
Whether it is examining the mysteries of the universe or focusing on cultural and historical accuracy, NOVA is helping to reshape the science media landscape. By demonstrating how the scientific process works and how powerful it can be in revealing and transforming our world, NOVA continues to build widespread engagement with science.
Science affects all of us, in different ways in different communities. We have confronted a global pandemic while also wrestling with the challenges of climate change. We are witnessing unparalleled discoveries in space and genetics while also confronting racial and gender inequities within the sciences. NOVA’s distinctive storytelling sheds light on the deepest mysteries of the natural world and the latest breakthroughs in technology.
“The greater the public understanding of the scientific process and the more equipped the public is to make fact-based decisions, the healthier and more prepared for the future our society will be.”
Chris Schmidt, Co-executive Producer, NOVA
Gifts to the NOVA Science Trust support the research, development and production of NOVA films, digital content and educational and outreach activities.

Children’s Media & Education
All of GBH’s educational content for children stems from our approach to respond to our communities and audiences, as well as include them and represent them in our programming, resources and events.
For 50 years, GBH Kids’ groundbreaking children’s programming has emphasized inclusion, a sense of connection and acceptance while emphasizing health and emotional well-being. The GBH Education team, working with communities and educators, continually creates quality media resources for both formal and informal learning spaces, offered for free and available nationwide through PBS LearningMedia.

History, Arts & Culture
Producing and presenting arts programming is a critical part of our mission — connecting communities and audiences through free, accessible offerings. For all of our audiences, GBH opens up the worlds of music, drama, history and cultural arts through programming, podcasts, events and digital resources.
“MASTERPIECE has earned the respect and loyalty of its audience over five wonderful decades, and I hope that our dedicated viewers will help us keep the legacy alive and ensure that our series remains a vital part of the television landscape.”
Rebecca Eaton, Executive Producer-at-large, MASTERPIECE
The reach and scope of GBH arts programs attest to the enduring value and power of art to connect us, reveal new worlds and help us find new links to our past and future. Together we find community, levity and escape through programs like MASTERPIECE’s All Creatures Great and Small, Around the World in 80 Days, and the Jane Austen-based Sanditon; AMERICAN EXPERIENCE biographical films history documentaries; and 24/7 access to classical music on 99.5 CRB.
“This world yearns for the transcendence and beauty that classical music brings, and we at CRB are driven by our mission to make classical music accessible to all. We are dedicated to bringing our audiences the gift of great music—whenever and wherever they choose to listen and/or watch.”

GBH Voices and Equity Fund: Inspiring Positive Change
Core to fulfilling GBH’s mission is responding to the needs and interests of under-served and historically excluded communities. Through our work, we aim to foster greater awareness and appreciation for diverse perspectives; shine a light on inequities and injustice, share untold narratives and provide spaces for all voices to be heard with the intent of inspiring positive change.
We are committing to fully integrating Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Access at GBH, making it a part of everything we do.
Gifts to our newly-established GBH Voices and Equity Fund will allow us to sustain our ongoing commitments to diversity, equity, inclusion and access, help launch innovative new work, and allow us to respond quickly to needs and opportunities as they emerge.
“Equity is one of my favorite words when we talk about Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Access. Equity is access, opportunity, support, and the removal of systemic and structural barriers. It considers the diverse needs presented by an individual or group. At GBH, we are operationalizing equity in all aspects of what we do, how we do it and whom we engage with. This focus shines a light on the gaps and improves access for all!”

NEH Challenge: GBH Media Library and Archives
Racing Against Time
With nearly one million audio, video, film and digital assets dating to 1947, GBH has one of the nation’s most important public media archives, chronicling many of the most critical cultural and historical events of our time. This rich record of American history—news, arts and culture, science, children’s programming and more—is increasingly vulnerable to deterioration and must be preserved for future generations.
“We are in a fight against time to digitize and preserve our audio and visual heritage. This content will be unusable in five to ten years if we don’t act now.”
Karen Cariani, David O. Ives Executive Director, GBH Media Library and Archives
GBH Planet Future Fund: Amplifying Climate and Environmental Issues
The health and well-being of our planet, and the urgent need to mitigate the effects of climate change are areas of critical importance that GBH has long been committed to addressing. The GBH Planet Future Fund (PFF) supports programs across the organization that amplify climate and environmental issues with an eye toward illuminating practical, equitable and sustainable solutions to the current climate crisis, both locally and nationally.
“The effects of climate change are impacting all of us, and we believe everyone has a personal responsibility to do more. GBH and its programs reach and inspire millions of people all over the world, and we have always been proud to invest resources with GBH. We hope our philanthropy will motivate others to support this important work now and well into the future.”
Lynn Dayton, Vice Chair, GBH Board of Trustees, Fund sponsor
