GBH Voices and Equity Fund: Inspiring Positive Change

Core to fulfilling GBH’s mission is responding to the needs and interests of under-served and historically excluded communities. Through our work, we aim to foster greater awareness and appreciation for diverse perspectives; shine a light on inequities and injustice, share untold narratives and provide spaces for all voices to be heard with the intent of inspiring positive change.

We are committing to fully integrating Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Access at GBH, making it a part of everything we do.

Gifts to our newly-established GBH Voices and Equity Fund will allow us to sustain our ongoing commitments to diversity, equity, inclusion and access, help launch innovative new work, and allow us to respond quickly to needs and opportunities as they emerge.

“Equity is one of my favorite words when we talk about Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Access. Equity is access, opportunity, support, and the removal of systemic and structural barriers. It considers the diverse needs presented by an individual or group. At GBH, we are operationalizing equity in all aspects of what we do, how we do it and whom we engage with. This focus shines a light on the gaps and improves access for all!”

NEH Challenge: GBH Media Library and Archives
Racing Against Time

With nearly one million audio, video, film and digital assets dating to 1947, GBH has one of the nation’s most important public media archives, chronicling many of the most critical cultural and historical events of our time. This rich record of American history—news, arts and culture, science, children’s programming and more—is increasingly vulnerable to deterioration and must be preserved for future generations.

“We are in a fight against time to digitize and preserve our audio and visual heritage. This content will be unusable in five to ten years if we don’t act now.”

Karen Cariani, David O. Ives Executive Director, GBH Media Library and Archives

GBH Planet Future Fund: Amplifying Climate and Environmental Issues

The health and well-being of our planet, and the urgent need to mitigate the effects of climate change are areas of critical importance that GBH has long been committed to addressing. The GBH Planet Future Fund (PFF) supports programs across the organization that amplify climate and environmental issues with an eye toward illuminating practical, equitable and sustainable solutions to the current climate crisis, both locally and nationally.

“The effects of climate change are impacting all of us, and we believe everyone has a personal responsibility to do more. GBH and its programs reach and inspire millions of people all over the world, and we have always been proud to invest resources with GBH. We hope our philanthropy will motivate others to support this important work now and well into the future.”

Lynn Dayton, Vice Chair, GBH Board of Trustees, Fund sponsor
